Biography

Studied for BA (Hons) in Fine Art (Sculpture) at Newcastle-upon-Tyne University (1971–1975) followed by a PGCE in Art Education at Birmingham University. After teaching sculpture for 2 years within a comprehensive school in Essex, Ruth travelled in South East Asia and then worked in Sydney, Australia (1979–83). On returning to England she commenced her studies in stained glass under Paul san Casciani in Oxford in 1984.

From 1990–92 Ruth took a post-graduate course in stained glass under Amal Ghosh at Central St. Martin's, London and was awarded a Caroline Swash Fellowship in stained glass the following year. She has been an Associate member of the British Society of Master Glass Painters since 2001.

Ruth works from her studio in London where she carries out commissions, works on autonomous panels and creates fused glass garden pieces and jewellery. She teaches art part-time in a primary school in London and runs art projects and stained glass workshops in primary, secondary and independent schools.
